In 2021, CEDBCAM-RI expanded its research funding. Our researchers submitted twelve applications to international calls and won three new grants on maternal and neonatal health and One Health, including a second grant for MEPOGENSA. Six Master’s students also completed their research at the institute.

Molecular Epidemiology and Population Genomics of Streptococcus agalactiae Isolates from the Microbiome of Pregnant Women and Neonates
A second grant for MEPOGENSA, first funded in 2020 by the Cambridge-Africa ALBORADA Research Fund. It strengthens the study of Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus) carried by pregnant women and transmitted to newborns in Cameroon.

MOTION
Molecular epidemiology of ESBL-producing Enterobacterales isolated from pregnant women and neonates in Cameroon
MOTION studies the dynamics, profiles and determinants of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacterales carried by mothers and their newborns. Its first results on maternal and neonatal colonisation in a Cameroonian labour ward were published in 2024.
