2024’s Projects

In 2024, CEDBCAM-RI launched HOSPICARE, its first project dedicated to biocide resistance in Cameroonian hospitals, and supervised Master’s research on resistance mechanisms in hospital and environmental bacteria. HOSPICARE paved the way for HOSPICARE II, funded in 2025.

HOSPICARE I

Whole Genome Sequencing of Biocide Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Healthcare Facilities in Cameroon

HOSPICARE I generates genomic data on Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa that resist biocides (disinfectants and antiseptics) in hospital settings. The project characterises their resistance mechanisms, virulence and transmission dynamics to support infection prevention and control strategies against healthcare-associated infections.

Principal Investigator: Prof. Martin Welch, Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge (United Kingdom)
Co-Principal Investigator (African collaborator): Prof. Raspail Carrel Founou Zangue (CEDBCAM-RI)
